Two of our favorite Northwest authors – Willy Vlautin and Jonathan Evison, take the stage.
Born and raised in Reno, Nevada, Willy Vlautin is the author of six novels including his sixth, The Night Always Comes, which explores the idea of the American dream and the impacts of gentrification, greed, and opportunism on ordinary, working class lives. He is also the founder of the bands Richmond Fontaine and The Delines. Vlautin started writing stories and songs at the age of eleven after receiving his first guitar. Inspired by songwriters and novelists Paul Kelly, Willie Nelson, Tom Waits, William Kennedy, Raymond Carver, and John Steinbeck, Vlautin works diligently to tell working class stories in his novels and songs. Vlautin lives near Portland, Oregon with his wife, dog, cats, and horses.
Jonathan Evison is the New York Times Bestselling author of seven novels, most recently Small World, which Booklist called “a masterpiece…the quintessential Great American Novel,” and the Christian Science Monitor called “a modern classic.” Sherman Alexie has called Evison “the most honest white man alive.” He lives with his family in Washington State.
